There is a procedure for bringing the vote straight to the floor, bypassing the committee.
There were no committee hearings on SC justice nominations until 1916. Many nominees really didn’t answer questions until 1955, when southern senators were angry over the Brown vs Board of Education.

I’m in the power industry, and haven’t heard a word on any “grid down” warnings. Being that I’m in the group that is expected to keep the Grid Up, I would hope that we are let in on things ahead of time.
I will be visiting the office tomorrow and I’ll look into it to the best of my ability. We drill for such events, well, for major blackout scenarios and such, so that if/when things happen, we’re not in totally foreign territory.
An EMP type event would be, well, challenging. It would certainly test the hardening we’ve done over the last few years. Undoubtedly, things would break and our grid would be weakened. To what extent is the big question.
