It’s our job to help wake people up.
Have a younger mid-late 30s neighbor, smart techie and thoughtful, Joe Rogan listener. The other day a couple of us neighbors were chatting. The fellas were talking about Elon Musk on Rogan, interesting science; how Musk said we need chip implants just to keep up with AI, and how great that would be. I queried, “what if someone else controls the information from the chip, other than you?” The fellas just kinda shrugged and the convo went another way.
Again having convo with same neighbor, talking electronics and wi-fi, and anti google, which he agrees. Yes to Tor, Firefox, and VPN. I said, yeah, they collect every keystoke, everything we watch. “No, it’s too much data. Even if they do they are not going to pick me out with an algorithm to do anything, only if I do anything illegal.” So I say, no, not that I’m doing anything wrong, but they can single me out if they don’t like something about me and backfill (parallel construction) a crime. The younger neighbor thought that I was nuts (conspiracy theory) but an older neighbor —although a big Dem— agreed with me.
People live in these sheltered worlds, although very bright, they do not see need for concern. This younger guy is someone who I thought would get it. But his mind is far away. This concerns me.
