Tell that to the people who lost their homes and businesses in the wildfires in the west. It's bad enough that you lost everything but when the video inventory of your house went up in flames try convincing the insurance company to believe your statement that what you say is correct. My friends not only lost everything they had no proof to back up what they were claiming on the insurance claim. They were denied thousands of dollars in claims by the insurance company.
Ive been told to go around your house and video everything and give a copy to your insurance agent. But how do you know he or she will keep it secure, so that the night cleanup person doesnt have access to a detailed display of your stuff and where you hide Grannys jewelry? So complicated.
if you have to suddenly evacuate your house (highly unlikely),
you should have a mental list of things you should take with you,
and your back up drive should be on that list.
