What cloud services are safe for conservatives from hacking or other mischief? What are best practices and tips for a modestly skilled mac user with no background in programming? (Need replies in ordinary everyday English, as I do not speak Geek.) Grateful for some awesome freeper tutelage. Thanks in advance.
Until I work it out, is there a way to clean out some of your files to create more room?
Turn it off.
If you want privacy, talk to your dog.
Outside.
In a rural area.
Otherwise, fuggedaboutit.
ProtonMail is coming out with their ProtonDrive later this fall. Full encryption end-to-end. Stored on their servers in Switzerland.
Ping!
I’ve sort of used hushmail some.
My advice:
Buy an external hard drive.
No need for a “cloud”.
If anyone knows if any mac geeks in FR besides our esteemed swordmaker, please ping them! Thanks!
My company started pushing this as they prepared for layoffs; didn’t want to re-invent the wheel by re-creating spreadsheets and such already designed. It makes it very convenient to send work to Asia as well.
Ain’t globalization grand? /s
I personally do NO Cloud Anything, but I also don’t make electronic transaction either and have never had a Social media account, best to remain obscure and hidden from plain sight as much as possible.
Do you need some kind of backup program if you use an external hard drive, or does such a program come standard on most recent macs?
Bingo.
Yes back it up! I dropped mine and had to pay over a thousand dollars to get it restored!
But as for my plans for world domination, I keep those securely hidden in my safe at home.
“Im getting a warning that I need to add cloud beyond what came free from Apple.”

Dump any device that throws your personal info and files up into the ether.
What do you want to store in the could ? Photos and videos ?
If you're looking to avoid getting ads for Cruise lines after uploading your latest cruise photos then some of the more geeky solutions will work. Especially if you encrypt everything first. IE, think Dropbox, not Facebook.
Unfortunately the more geek-free and user friendly something is, there tends to be less privacy. Also, don't forget that if the service is free, you're probably the product.
They are all susceptible to the same risks and all are used by hackers to commit their nefarious acts. Best advice is to secure your VM by following the CIS benchmark standards found here for the OS and application of your choice: https://www.cisecurity.org/cis-benchmarks/
For learning to code, I highly recommend Code Academy: codeacademy.com
You can keep it all on your phone instead of having it copy to iCloud and then use iTunes to back it up to your local hard drive. That is what I do. You would need to change settings for each app that has been using iCloud, though.
My wife is paying for the first tier of iCloud backup. I think it is $12 a year or so.
My wife has a way of destroying HDDs of any kind.
I put her on a cloud backup plan.It justified it’s use the last unexpected rebuild/replace.
All she does is Internet and some Word. Keeping 100 plus tabs between 3 browsers might be a factor. I am a lowlife Trump supporter and working IT guy so my opinion means nothing until something goes wrong.
My main PC is a few years old and I do 4k video editing and the like. Pretty much 0 hardware trouble.
Photos and video live in a cloud.
I have very little in terms of documents at all.
