Me? I doubt it.
I know the owners and staff where I eat out. Out of FRIENDSHIP, I follow their instructions. And I know they’re following the tyrannical requirements of our local “community organizer” county executive (not making that up).
But I’ve made my feelings known to them about all the stupidity.
Nonetheless, I’m not going to criticize someone who took umbrage at the mask nags. Even the polite nags. His response was proportional to the provocation. He didn’t yell or scream. Unlike leftist scum, he didn’t riot. No Burning, Looting, or Murdering. Not even a verbal confrontation. Just a lack of a tip and a one-word explanation for it.
My impression is that we need folks like this. Irritants that highlight the insanity that has enveloped us.
Boss your customers around, fewer tips. Right or wrong, that’s how people are.
Watch out, Karens are everywhere screaming you’re wrong.
I’m still learning how to fit food through the tiny pores of the mask that I’m wearing. Maybe if I aerosolize the food first, or dissolve it, and take it intravenously.
I was at a local bar/tiki last weekend. Our favorite bartender/waitress was working without a mask. I asked her about that, she said she is DONE with masks, through them all out, none at the house, none in her car.
All the other waitresses were wearing a mask. We go here pretty much every weekend. Nobody wears a mask going into the establishment or out. Been that way for a few months.
Very good!! I say this stuff to everyone. It is so idiot!
ROFLM(MASKED)AO!!
Im a server. I keep my mouth shut. However, there is a great deal of fear in this industry. Not necessarily fear of the virus, but fear of possible repercussions for not complying to rules that are ever changing, vacillate between specific and vague, and are incredibly easy to forget because youve had a routine way of doing things for a long time.
She may have been just doing what she was told. Conversely, she may be a fearful mask nazi who was overstepping her bounds. We dont know, but there are some customers out there who are power hungry, mean spirited people who love looking for fault in the help and find a victory with a reason to be justified in leaving a condescending jab instead of a tip. Who knows what kind of a guy this was, but we are all on edge, frustrated with the current situation and prone to letting emotions guide our decisions.
We all need to return to reason and give others grace.
What proof is there that this actually happened?
Then the server was correct and the customer was a jerk.
I hate the effin’ masks. They do no good and cause harm. They are a method of social control.
I only keep one in my pocket because some places require it.
Thanks for that very thoughtful, gracious, and well-balanced post.
Even before COVID it was true that people in service industries took a beating from arrogant, jackass customers. When I was in the retail industry they used to make cashiers come into my office to cry on a regular basis.
I err on the side of believing that the waitstaff or store clerks are doing what they’ve been told by their employer, possibly under jackboot threats of tyrannical government.
As I said my beef is with the Governor and Fauci, not you.
People who work in these jobs don’t earn nearly enough to be forced to play social traffic cop.
Maybe it was another fake receipt message, like so many that have been written by waiters and waitresses who LOVE to lie for sympathy (and GoFundMe).
I love these stories where someone left a tip that upset a waitress so she alerts the media and they run with it.
Could always be that, too.
But even if it’s for real, it seemed to me a measured way of registering protest.
Yeah, I can’t stand being told to pull my mask up. When ordering, I pulled mine down slightly to make myself heard in answering a question. The order taker quickly told me to pull my mask up in a panicked voice. Yeah, I didn’t tip them. I’m being generous tipping on a to-go order in the first place. I don’t want to be berated about having my mask down slightly.
I’m not defending the customer.
I’ve solved the problem a different way.
I don’t eat out. Saves a ton of money.
I’d feel sympathy for restaurants if they fought this.
But since they won’t, I’m not going to make myself miserable while paying through the nose (including generous tip) for a meal being eaten in what feels like a biohazard lab.
My husband has a hearing impairment.
Depending on the person speaking, some people have to yell in order for hubby to hear them.
Which makes a mockery of the mask requirement to my mind.
I’ve eaten out exactly ONE time since “15 Days to Slow the Spread”. Onerous COVID rules just make it too unpleasant of an experience.
The public has been so indoctrinated into the Covid religious cult, I have to wonder if it will ever end.
I’ve become an awesome copycat cook.
I’ve duplicated all our favorite meals.
We don’t miss eating out.
My sympathy for biz both large and small started drying up when they refused to band together and fight this.
