The burst of gunfire that injured President Reagan Monday sparked an instantaneous and sharp rise in his popular standing with the American people, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
The president was already comparatively high in popularity, but his approval rating showed a climb of 11 percentage points from Sunday, the Tuesday, when the news Post-ABC poll was conducted.
While it is common for a president's popularity rating to increase at a time of national crisis, the rise for Reagan appears as sharp as any yet recorded. Reagan's new surge came at a time when the president seemed to be on something of a downward swing in popularity as measured by previous polls.
The new Post-ABC poll was conducted Tuesday night, with 505 people interviewed by telephone nationwide. In the survey, 73 percent of those interviewed said they approve of Reagan's performance as president, 16 percent said they disapprove, and 11 percent expressed no opinion. Because a relatively small number of people were interviewed, the poll has a theoretical margin of error of about 5 percent in either direction.

I do think the reaction of the Left and many in the media will turn off a lot of people, and gain more sympathy for Trump.

Reagan survived and came back more powerful than ever, and changed the world. I was living in Europe at the time and had a front row seat to history!
a) Not as atrocious as a shooting.
b) As Pelousy shamed him, in theory he could’ve avoided this.
I don’t think he’ll get much bump from this.
Trump can now say to all the virus sufferers, “I feel your pain.” Yet another thing he can do better than Clan Hillary.
If I remember correctly,it was a type of exploding bullet that failed to blow up when he was shot.
If only Billy boy would get it so he could feel some extra pain. Hill would be a bonus.
No doubt he is in bad shape and propped up with super duper medical care us nobodies could never get.
Reagan was actually being taken back to the White House when a Secret Service agent noticed some bloody foam coming out of the President's mouth and re-directed the limo to the hospital. Up to that point, nobody (including Reagan himself) realized he had been shot. (Reagan thought the pain he felt was from being pushed roughly into the limo)

That shooter did a lot of damage. Every single shot of his did serious damage to somebody including a Secret Service man, a cop, the Press Secretary plus of course President Reagan.
Reagan and John Paul II the same year. And Commies still regret that they both survived.
It will go up quite a bit among his base. This will really make them get out and vote for him.
Interesting. Of course in those days, there was much more respect for the Office of The President.
