Science has become irreparably political.”

Yes, it has. I remember being on the Reed College campus in utter shock the day Sputnik went up. Everyone was appalled. We all wanted the government to do something just as they did in the fairly recent WWII in getting our science and technology up and running.

We had no idea of the regimentation to come. Government, that is politics writ very large, as all government projects grow into. Since my college days I have not only seen, but attempted to analyze both our own government and compare it to the Nazi support of thier own science establishment before and during WWII. Ours is much worse because we are not only more wealthy, and wealth attracts the political amongst us.

Sputnik was the incentive to our scientific ruin and corruption.

Irt looks like this will continue. However, President Trump has broken so many molds and economic holds that lead to our corruption, that I hope science is also somehow cleansed. Probably not, but I do have this hope.
