The moviegoing experience is central to American life.

Clearly not. If it were there would be no need for a bailout.

Want to see why America is turning away from this "central" experience? Watch the Oscars. That's what the industry rewards, that's what it has turned into. It isn't selling, and the answer isn't to fleece the former audiences through their taxes.

With current technology, I will likely never go to a movie again. $20 for a ticket, another $20 for food and a drink.
Or, sit in your comfortable chair in your own home with a personal theater setup?...
No ghetto hoodrats at my house either.
