The Handmaiden’s Tail (pun) is all about Democrats wanting sex. That story says more about Democrats than anything else. They trot it out but don’t understand their fascination with the story, they don’t understand that it’s about projection of their inner world and not about the Republicans.
Given the dystopian premise of The Handmaid’s Tale, I’m not sure what the theocracy did that was wrong apart from extremism. The novel is supposed to show the evils of patriarchy. A little bit of patriarchy might have saved Breonna Taylor’s life. I see the tattooed 300 lbs. whales at the grocery store with their illegitimate children in tow ... You’ve come a long way, baby.
What always makes me laugh my ass off is that Attwood portrayed Christianity as oppressing women.
She doesn’t know enough about Christianity and history to realize that women’s rights in the West derive from Christianity.
She needed to take a look at the rest of the world to understand just how true this is. Islam and Hinduism are especially misogynistic.
It is a pity that the publishing world rewarded such ignorance.
Haven’t read it. Homeschooled, I tend to heed the advice of elders who’ve been there, and I hear Handmaid’s Tale is a sand trap. Avoid!
