Though the way he was looking off into space when Trump nailed him at the end about Biden, Russia, the attempted coup, and Biden’s part in the Flynn debacle - that is something he didn’t expect, and could not answer. The answers didn’t appear before his eye gizmo. Maybe it was on his screen but he didn’t look down at it.
Incidentally, his eyes may have had some non-reflective ‘lens’ things installed so that the reflection of his tablet-type device would not show up on camera. That is, the eyes were treated, but not with a device that could communicate. Rather, a device that could keep his other form of communications, the tablet, from reflecting and being visible to the TV audience.
Some kind of chicanery was up, that’s for sure. Virtually all of Biden’s answers were platitudes from his campaign or the DNC. A combination of “orange man bad”, America bad, whitey bad (except for himself), government good, and Antifa an idea.
