“I wish there was some way I didn’t have to pay to get my own bike back,” he said. “People said I shouldn’t have done that, but I wanted to keep things calm.”

The snowflake generation in a nutshell. Afraid to offend anyone.

This isn't about bicycles, but... I remember reading an article in a British hooligan motorcycle magazine (it might have been "Fast Bikes,") where there was an article about vigilante motorcycle "recovery" gangs in England, because the sheer number of bikes stolen then shipped over to the continent and even overseas is really huge.

They'd set up bikes in a rather out of the way location, with typical bike locks, and be hanging out in a nearly van. Once the bike thieves actually started putting the bike into their van or truck, the "recovery engineers" would stream out of the van and "school" the thieves with tire irons and baseball bats, generally breaking their bones.

After a short time, those neighborhoods would become much safer for motorcycles.

>>Isn’t possession of stolen property still a crime?<<

Homleess people are pre-absolved of all crime.

I dont think i would have that problem. A .45 in the face generally changes peoples attitude.

Unfortunately, that method of stolen bike recovery could easily cost you far more than paying off the bum to give it back.

I know that years ago grocery stores were criticized for trying to get their carts back from the homeless. The carts aren’t cheap, they have the store’s name on them, but once a bum fills it with his stuff, it’s apparently his.

Grocery stores in Denver have got Automatic brakes On their carts which prevent said carts from being wheeled away from the area parking lot.
