I replaced my roof recently. Cost me 18 Thousand dollars. Bought the house 18 years ago and local insurance regs state to keep the home insurable the roof must be replaced by the time the shingles are 19 years old.
The builder used 30-year warrantied shingles. What was the point? To give peace of mind? I guess it was probably a Marketing thing.

I gotta tell you. It’s only September. But I’m sure you’ve won the 2020 award for commenting after reading the headline only.

(Side note: I’m not knocking you. I make such comments all the time!)

If the yahoo that did your roof could guarantee me I’d never have new shingles for 30 years, it would get me to a 100 years old. I’d take it. Shingles is a hard row to hoe.

Looking at your posts since you posted on this Shingles thread, I believe you go from thread to thread and never go back and check for responses to your previous posts.

“...and local insurance regs state to keep the home insurable the roof must be replaced by the time the shingles are 19 years old.”

I hadn’t heard of that, but I did notice that roofs are now pro-rated in my policy, so I may not have any coverage of the roof after that many years, but that the rest of the house would still be covered. I guess I better check on that more carefully.
