Just spitballing a possible explanation. If you can create an environment in the locality of the craft or vehicle that is in an anti-gravity state then those movements would be possible in this dimension, otherwise you are squished flat.

However an unmanned object might do these thing without an anti-gravity state but still the forces on the vehicle would be tremendous considering that they have to push against the atmosphere to brake, stop and accelerate. I know I have watched too much science fiction...

A solid state components, a scram jet or solid fueled rocket engine with no moving parts,unmanned remotely controlled; perhaps G-force wouldn’t be as big an issue?
