“Hearing aids are distracting for folks with dementia”
From what I’ve seen among friends and family, they’re distracting in the elderly even with a 100% functioning brain.
Mom is 96, and can tell you word-for-word parts of Hannity’s book, who was on what Fox show on what day, etc. But when there’s a conversation and she’s wearing her hearing aid, it flummoxes her.
The issue is your rain can select what noise you naturally listen to. A hearing aid amplifies all sound and it is difficult to get used to it.
As I sit here, I have a TV on, the washing machine going, a dog barking outside, and my ever present tinnitus. That said, I can hear my wife when she speaks.
With a hearing aidthose noses are all therejust louder.
Its no wonder the elderly hate hearing aids (in general.)
