Thanks for the tip about the Ambient weather system. What were your choices for security system and sky camera?

“What were your choices for security system and sky camera?”

That sky camera is a 4K, POE, 8MP 4X motorized optical Zoom
bullet unit made by Lorex, that has an ONVIF mode that can
be unlocked.

Lorex 8MP 4K IP Motorized Varifocal Zoom Bullet Security Camera LNB8973BW, 250ft IR Night Vision, 4X Zoom

I like those for the stationary views.
They have been real nice. License plate number reading nice.
(But painful to set up on a non Lorex system.)
The newer Ring Doorbells are very good, too, for what they
do. I’ve found those are happiest and most responsive when
there is a wireless router or network extender within a few
feet of their location, though.

DSL will barely work for such things.
Decent internet speed is needed for full functionality.

AmCrest now has something similar to those 8MP Lorex units, I think.
I may try one since I’m using their 4K NVRs for the most part.
They will probably be easier to set up.

I found one of those portable POE IP camera tester units to
be a huge time saver in making everything right.

I’ve gone entirely UPS backed hardwired power over Ethernet
for all the cameras. A couple of the Pan Tilt Zoom units are
less than 4K resolution, but they make up for that with 20X
optical zoom, faster frame rates and longer distance IR.

There may be better cameras to consider now, too, but I’ve
gotten far better results than you’ll get with your average
Costco boxed system.
