I don't agree. I told my son in 2004 when he moved down here that many of the foreign policy problems we had were traceable back to Carter -- more specifically mostly due to Iran and secondarily the Middle East. As Prez. Trump has noted, Iran has been the #1 sponsor of terrorism every since Carter displaced the Shah for the Ayatollah. Iranian oil subsidized their illegal global policies. Yes, O'zero built on that shaky platform favoring Iran in all his Middle East shenanigans and giving them billions of dollars - BUT Prez. Trump finally dealt with the Mullahs of Iran directly.
Now the Sunni Muslim countries see a chance to stand up to the Shia threat of Iran - and are finding a willing partner that will act in Israel. Before DJT such an approach to the Middle East was not even imagined.
Carter acted on what he thought {or said} was his principles: don't support autocratic governments. His short sightedness ruled the roost until Prez Trump decided to change the rules.
Yeah, his mistake in his handling of Iran was a very big mistake that has created long term, very damaging problems for the US. I still think Obama’s damage far exceeds Carter’s, but Carter’s were more long term than I intimated. Obama’s damage is so much worse because he has harmed the internal stability of the US itself. Carter just created a new, external enemy, that we could swat like a fly if they ever really bothered us enough.
