This guy protecting his kids is being a good father. He maybe trying to scam the system, however, I have faith in my fellow man.

I'm not criticizing him. He was nearly killed protecting his kids. I think he and perhaps those around him saw a window with which he could capitalize on the media coverage and create a GoFundMe account. Can't say I blame him. These opportunities don't come around often.
