They can do an ultrasound and check for catheter placement. Sometimes it can get shoved up too far in the bladder resulting in crimping and folding over of the line which can cause pain and spasm. Sometimes the catheter needs to be pulled out and placed in again.

If the catheter were kinked, it wouldn’t drain urine. Bladder ultrasounds are usually available on the unit to check if the bladder is emptying properly.
