“I venture to say, the sub needs to be at “zero bubble” to accurately launch torpedoes, right? So zero bubble means watch for fish being launched.....”
Not necessarily. Torpedoes are mostly wireguided now, I think - probably by computers. I’ve been out of the Navy for a loooong time now, so I’m open to correction. The fire control officer used to be able to guide them with a joy stick, but that was a long time ago. We did not have to be at zero bubble to let them go.
Missiles yes to a zero bubble, but not from 50’.
I should think it would have been 50 meters. They make little errors that trouble me sometimes. Like, 50 feet vs. 50 meters is not a huge mistake but you would think if they wanted to use the submarine attack analogy they would get it right.
The one that bugs me more though is that they’ve referred to the President as the Commander And Chief a couple of times and it is NOT the Commander And Chief, it’s Commander In Chief, and I should really think they should know that. So I get a little cognitive dissonance sometimes. I’m hoping it’s intended, like using ‘pidgin’ in place of ‘pigeon’.
