Stick to the more rural routes. Keep food in the car, ready to eat so you don’t have to stop during the day. Stop at rural motels only after sunset and check out/leave before sunrise. Good luck.

Good advice and we'll definitely have food and water in the car. We are trying to stop as little as possible, but every few hours to stretch is necessary.
