Not in Lowell, MA, too close to Boston and the skies are not conducive to star-gazing. You must be thinking of the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ!
My family lives just outside Lowell, towns like Chelmsford, Westford, Tyngsboro and Carlisle. I would stay away from Lowell proper. Some parts of it are very rough. Passing though on main drags like I-495 or Route 3 is no problem. But the towns I mentioned are very nice and scenic - lot of farms and the roadside farmstands this time of year will have tons of fresh produce.

Thank you for the advice. We'll have to look for fresh farm produce too. My wife and I do a little market gardening and can appreciate the effort that goes into growing good produce, especially in New England's rocky soils.
