HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — This was a virtual nightmare for educators and parents.
Officials in a South Florida school district are investigating after students in an online science class were exposed to a live sex act on their screens, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
According to the newspaper, Thierry “Ted” Victor was teaching environmental science at McArthur High School in Hollywood on Sept. 2 when he saw the live video, according to a letter he sent to administrators.
As Victor viewed the Microsoft Teams video conferencing session, he said he saw a female performing oral sex on a male, according to the Sun-Sentinel, which obtained a copy of the teacher’s letter to school administrators.
“For the first few seconds, I did not recognize what I was looking at. I was frozen with fear, anger, disillusionment, confusion, and a broken spirit, all at once,” Victor wrote. “The class became chaotic in no time. Audible, yet semi-unintelligible, collages of laughter, profanities, along with several students pleading for this virtual assault to stop, caused sheer panic.'
Victor said he was so stunned, he ended his class early, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
According to his letter, Victor said did not know the identity of the girl on the screen, but said a student in his class identified her as a student in the Broward County school system. Victor added he believed two male students in his class shared the link that allowed an outsider to enter the Teams meeting.
Reached by the Sun-Sentinel, Victor declined to comment.
School administrators immediately reported the incident to the district’s information technology department and its special investigative unit, district spokesperson Kathy Koch told the newspaper. Investigators determined that the incident was not the result of hacking.
“The school’s leadership continues to investigate the matter to identify those involved and is reviewing security protocols to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future,” according to a statement from the school district. “Any student who displays inappropriate material or behavior is subject to disciplinary consequences.”

Give me a break. It was an immoral act for sure, and 100% wrong to be there. But ‘fear’? ‘disillusionment’? Over what??

I think he is a very “idealistic” teacher...The teacher who wants to be a “friend” of the students...He probably was shocked at how badly some students behaved in this case...By exposing the whole class to the sex video...
If you’re a grown-up high school teacher and you didn’t *immediately* have a general idea what “that” was, your hurt feelings are the least of your problems.
This is an adult male and he feels fear, disillusionment and “broken spirit” when he sees some girl give oral sex?
What kind of man is he? A Biden voter?

Certainly fear. The school could blame him and he could lose his job. Getting another with that accusation on your resume would be impossible.

A good point...The administration could blame him for being careless and allowing that to happen...
I am sure even Florida teachers have tenures...I don’t know if this science teacher has a tenure or not...I am sure that he would ask the union for help if the administration wants to punish him...
I use Teams for work. You are right. It’s just another app that does things other apps do.
Good point. He’s probably playing up his reaction for the administration and school board so he doesn’t get fired. And maybe to the parents. It’s probably hyperbole with the goal of self-preservation.
Don’t forget he experienced “broken spirit” as well. LOL!
With all these riots, looting , arson, destruction , murders, the guaranteed chaos of the upcoming elections, the bitter upcoming fight over the Supreme Court, it takes this grown up guy seeing a few seconds oral sex to break his spirit?
The teacher should be set as moderator and have control allowing or kicking of class attendees. As well as controlling who speaks at a given time.

He is not in charge of the IT department. It’s not his job to stop hackers and what not. His business consists teaching.

I think this science teacher felt betrayed by some of his students...He thought his students were great...He probably trusted them...
A teacher should not be too idealistic...A teacher also should not be too cynical...
Maybe this incident will convince this science teacher that he should not be too idealistic...

I taught high school long ago, about 40 years ago. If this teacher thinks the students are not having sex, he .just be the most naive person on the planet.
His students may be great but that doesn’t mean they are not doing it.

As if we didn’t see this coming a mile away. Of course, it was bound to happen.
Then there’s all the other stuff teachers are just begging to report as seen in the background like wrong titled books, guns, a parent walking around in their underwear, dirty dishes in the sink, in appropriate art, etc. But by golly, the student better be following the dress code and have on proper pants and shoes.
