No, there is no direct election of the candidate, only the slate of electors. The vote will be counted for the RAT of the day. (please, God, not HER)
Can you cite some links to support that? This was discussed a few weeks ago on a news program and they said what I wrote, If that was wrong, Id like to see some support for your contention that a voter votes for an elector rather than a candidate. How do write in candidates get allocated to those electors?
“No, there is no direct election of the candidate, only the slate of electors. The vote will be counted for the RAT of the day. (please, God, not HER)”
Maybe, maybe not. Yes, you are voting for a slate of electors that are pledged to vote for Biden. If the Biden vote won that state, that would be the electors that vote in the EC. But at that point, they are no longer obligated to vote for Biden and are not pledged to any other candidate. So you could have a case where electors across all of the Biden won states could be voting for various Dems. You could see votes for Bernie, votes for Hillary, votes for Kamala, etc. Could make for an interesting election.
Wasn’t there just a Supreme Court ruling on point — that faithless electors are illegal? I seem to remember that electors are bound by the vote of the people. Ergo votes for Biden must fore the EC to cast those votes for Biden if he wins.
Its a hell of a mess — I like the idea of Trump nominating Biden to the Supreme Court — LOL
