Confederate General Braxton Bragg's Army of Tennessee attacks Union General William Rosecrans Army of the Cumberland near Chickamauga Creek in North West Georgia. By the end of the battle, over 30,000 men on both sides would be casualties. Chickamauga is the second most costly battle of the war, second only to Gettysburg.

I think that’s the distinction I overlooked. Antietam was the single bloodiest DAY of the war. Other battles lasted longer and claimed more lives.

I’m not sure if the media will glob onto that or not. But it made me think - and search. I think the “Civil War” was more of a rebellion - or a “revolution”. (Not trying to excuse Trump’s mixing up words - but it did make me think.)

As far as I can tell, the South didn’t want to take control of the entire country (a Civil War) - they just wanted to leave and control their own destiny (a rebellion/revolution).

It certainly was not a civil war, both factions were not fighting for control of the same government. Congress has used the term "War Between the States", which is probably the most applicable one. Rebellion and Revolution aren't exactly appropriate either, as the South did neither - they simply seceded, and wanted to be left alone. Without Northern aggression, there would be no war, just two separate countries. The War of Northern Aggression" is another tern used, and while accurate, has connotations that many people don't like. And throughout history, the victors write the history books, so you won't see this one very often.
