Well, their name is the Los Angeles Angels, because they are near L.A.
Atlanta Braves don’t play in Atlanta.
Dallas Cowboys do not play in Dallas.
Miami Dolphins do not play in Miami.
New York Giants and New York Jets do not play in New York.
While you are technically correct that the Angels do not play within the city limits of the city of Los Angeles, they are hardly unique in using the name of the big city which they are close to.
Like I said, Anaheim--and the rest of Orange County--ain't LA. We have a different temperament and worldview out here, and many of us deeply resented the owner for changing the name from the Anaheim Angels.
Incidentally, it's my contention that the term "onerous" was inspired by the antics of the owners of sports teams.
