Forgot about that. Clash of music there. Probably like The Partridge Family and Lynard Skynard double bill?

As book Monkee Business put it, Jimi was
not too crazy about playing teenybopper
crowds.
Jimi:”Foxy...”
Fans:”Davy!”
When he departed the tour they lied
and said it was because Daughters of the American
Revolution were upset at his erotic on
stage antics

I remember attending an Elton John concert in the early '80s with Quarterflash as the opener. Quarterflash had a smaller, but very real following, but there wasn't a lot of overlap. EJ was close to his bottom career-wise. I think he wanted to make sure he filled the Hartford Civic Center.
I remember the lead singer from Quarterflash introducing a song saying, "I hear Hartford is a party town!". Groan, I betcha say that to all the decaying third-tier cities. That wasn't going to get the mostly EJ crowd engaged.

Forgot about that. Clash of music there. Probably like The Partridge Family and Lynyrd Skynyrd double bill? In September of 1976, I saw "Rufus" with Chaka Kahn open for Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Beacon Theater in NYC.
It was awkward but we gave then their respect and they thanked us at the end of the show.
