FCPS, WORST county for education in the country (Don’t believe the lying polls)... Leading the way to the bottom.
That worst rating started after the MLK riots in April 1968.
My mother was a great reading teacher and was hired by FCPS in the fall of 1967. So she could be near my family and 2 young sons.
Her system was basic. Every student took a reading test to determine where they were and at what level. Then, she and her aides validated each student’s reading level. That was where each student was placed and monitored re any advances regardless of age or other class level.
Everything was going well for her at school and being with our family.
Then the riots came and scared the hell out of her and my Dad a disabled vet.
Shortly after the riots, she was informed that she could no longer use the tests to guide and place student at their reading levels.
She resigned and returned to her home state to use her system.
She later retired and became a consultant. That lasted until the mid/late 70’s. Then, she was told that the tests had to be in Spanish for the Mexican students and were just to be used for guidance not placement purposes.
So she finally retired.
She felt that the communists in the school system worked 24/7 to minimize reading, math, English and history skills.
Yup, I left engineering to be closer to my kids...worked for FCPS....HORRIBLE JOB! All liberals, parents, teachers and administrators...no consequences. No failure allowed....removed grades....no accountability for students. EVERYTHING blamed on teachers. I retired early because I couldn’t stand it.
