I have to say, I enjoy this kind of thing, but when I went to Alexandria, Egypt back in 1977 which was my first real exposure to any kind of Egyptology type of thing...we took a trip to the pyramids, IIRC it was something like a three hour drive through the desert, though I could be wrong in remembering.

I do remember seeing gun emplacements or SAM sites out there in the desert on the journey...:)

The Pyramids were...big. This was when you could still climb on them, so I wanted to see how high I could go, and I’ll tell you, it didn’t take long before I realized just how dangerous it was and I chickened out.

I realized that, even at the level I was at, slipping on those crumbly, grit covered stones would be a nasty trip down, because you weren’t going to catch yourself.

I heard that a someone got killed doing it, and they banned climbing on the pyramids after that. It made sense to me. Why allow it anyway?

I sat on a camel for a picture, and then the camel’s owner, who took my picture, wanted more money to let me down, so I said screw that and jumped off...I realized just how high you sit on a camel! Nasty creatures.

But when we went to the big museum that housed all the artifacts...I nearly became nauseous from the sheer volume, rooms and rooms and rooms of artifacts. It made my eyes glassy in a very short period of time.

It reminded me of the people who tour Europe on buses and say “If I see ONE MORE CATHEDRAL...”

One of our fellow FReepers (who shall remain nameless, and not just because I can't remember her name) not only climbed The Great Pyramid, she slept up there, and in the morning was filmed by the In Search Of crew.
