There has been a lot of talk about privilege being at the heart of the divisions in this country. So, I thought about it and realized that yes, I am privileged! I admit it!
Heres why I am privileged:
Im privileged because I studied hard and embraced education
Im privileged because I know that knowledge is power
Im privileged because I have studied history and have learned from the mistakes of the past
Im privileged because I started working at 16 and have been working constantly for over 40 years
Im privileged because when I realized my family needed more money, I got a second job
Im privileged because I budget my money, pay my debts on time, and protect my credit score
Im privileged because I only had children when I could afford to care for them

None of the reasons for my privilege have anything to do with the color of my skin or my economic standing. My privilege stems from hard work, personal responsibility, knowing right from wrong, and appreciating the blessings this country has to offer. Anyone can do this.

The rioters should be required to repeat this list from memory before they are released from jail.
Is it a privilege if you earned it?
This could have been penned by me, word for word.
I am privileged because I was born in the greatest country on earth. So are all the people in this great country, whether they are white, black, red, brown, or yellow. Having traveled to many countries on earth, I recognized that privilege at a very early age...We should not be a diverse country, but a unified country, and as the saying goes, ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, WITH LIBERTY FOR ALL....
One thing to add to the list. I have privilege because I was born in the freest nation in the world that allowed me to get ahead by education, hard work and personal responsibility
Simple answer: It's because of the way you react to situations, usually blaming someone else for your problems. Sorry, but you have a perception problem and that can only be changed by blacks within the black community.
To me, it all started with the War on Poverty under Johnson which rewarded welfare recipients with larger subsidies when the father wasn't present. It's easy to be a father...damn difficult to be a parent, yet 72% of all black children do not have a male parent in the home.
Step up, guys, and support your kids.
Ditto:
Working for over 40 years, 30 of which working 2 jobs to provide my family a better life.
Here’s my white privilege: Both of my kids, average middle class white had no hope of getting any scholarship money simply because they couldn’t check one of the many POC boxes: black, brown, child of single mother, title one school, gender confused, bad zip code, etc....
My White Privilege prevents me from giving a rats ass about people who willfully and knowingly Joined and Continue to Live on the George Wallace, Bull Connor, Jim Crow, KKK founders of the DEMOCRAT PLANTATION BOSSES. Actions have Consequences and so do the Decisions you make during your life. DEAL WITH IT!!!
Grew up on a poor farm, Dad had a drinking problem but he gave two things that were very important.
1) he was there
2) he was proud of us kids. Would brag us up to his buddies when we went to get him out of the bars.
Outstanding article. Unfortunately, it’s a theory...heck, a way of life that many on the left refuse to embrace. They’re convinced others should earn money just to “share” with everyone, but especially them.
Uh...no.
Corporate America via LinkedIn is forcing “Ally” training down everyone’s throats. “Be an Ally, check your privilege, and give your privilege to someone else.”
You cannot give responsibility to someone else. That is what they fail to understand.
The difference is that I really mean it.
Every individual is privileged to live in a free, non-force, capitalist, modern, advanced, division of labor society. In that context, there is a harmony of self interests. It is in one’s own self interest to benefit others. So, one can greatly overcome initial disadvantages by learning how to greatly benefit others.
Blacks have tried to claim whites should give them their money, homes, and jobs. This “Ally” thing is just an extension of that. Think Zimbabwe where blacks killed whites and took their farms.
“Is it a privilege if you earned it?” The word privilege implies that someone gave it to you and that privileges are part of a zero sum game; some get it and some don’t. Success is a better word. Everyone in the US has access to success as Oprah and Obama proved. How many of each class are successful depends on individual performance. America is built to reward individual freedom to succeed. Some don’t understand this and don’t participate; blaming others for their condition.
