The initial wave of NFL ratings for Thursday night’s season kickoff have arrived, and the preliminary numbers are down for the NFL. However, the event was the most-watched sporting event since the Super Bowl, and only the second show since the Super Bowl to exceed 20 million viewers. (The Academy Awards in February averaged 23.9 million.)
According to Deadline, the Kansas City-Houston game initially rated a 5.2 among adults 18-49, the key demographic for advertisers, and boasted a preliminary total of 16.4 million viewers. At the moment — ratings are adjusted upward as more reports roll in — that’s a 16.1 percent drop from last year’s kickoff between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

Ratings don’t matter to liberals. There’s a death grip now on sports by the far left and they won’t let go.
Until voters stop voting for these tax-dollar-funded stadiums and arenas and these corporate welfare hustlers sports teams lose the big handouts nothing will change.
Put in (or someone should sue to enforce) that NO POLITICAL ACTIONS will take place during any event funded by taxpayers.
Once people tune out and the tax money stops, these millionaire oppressed athletes will have to go do jobs more suited for their skills and education: packing groceries up at Walmart.

Watching the US Open thinking they were BLM free but no. A huge banner that they just had to give some camera time to. Nothing left for me now but golf and bowling.
My local MLB team is doing a good job of avoid politics. But saw three games where stadiums had BLM banners and found out the team in July wore BLM shirts while training.

I was thinking a 50% plus drop in viewers, but I guess a lot of viewers like being lectured by millionaires on how to be woke.

It’s actually a decent drop considering there’s nowhere to go and nothing to do since Covid is ruining our lives.
I do this crazy thing; I play, and train for, sports myself.
Instead of watching sports I read or learn new things.
There’s a site called “Coursera”. Thousands of free classes from Universities around the world.

I think there were many people tuning in to see what the players would do. Next week, I suspect we’ll see a much more precipitous drop in viewership.
Gamblers will keep the NFL afloat for a while. It is how the NFL has always survived. Take that, the squares in the Super Bowl or even fantasy football away and you are left with one of the most boring products played by interchangeable lifeless twits.
