NM was carried by Gore by around 300 votes in 2000, was carried by President Bush in his 2004 reelection, elected and reelected a GOP governor in 2010 and 2014, and cast more votes for President Trump + Libertarian Johnson + McMullin + other right-of-center presidential candidates in 2016 than it did for Hillary + Green Stein + other keft-of-center presidential candidates. The state is not the hopelessly Democrat wasteland that you imagine it to be.
