Same with my childhood friends and me. For us, it was the Youghiogheny River in western Pennsylvania.
I’m guessing every pond on cattle land is full of raw sewage. Cows are great at relieving themselves while they stand in water. That’s what crawdads and catfish are for -— to eat whatever yuk sinks to the bottom. Which is why God taught the Israelites not to eat shellfish or fish without scales. I’m a firm believer that if we had never fished for bottom feeders, our waters would be very clean.
