There was a documentary movie called “Isiacs’s storm. Great recreation of the hurricane. The storm took over 8,000 lives. There are also youtube vids of the aftermath of the storm.
Earlier in my life, I wanted to live on the island, but after seeing what Hurricane Alicia did in ‘83 I gave up on that idea. I went out to the west end of the island and saw mattresses, refrigerators, and other furniture scattered all over the place and empty slabs.
That Texas City explosion was a humdinger. My parents were living in Pasadena and the windows shook and it scared my mom to death. She knew something bad had happened and it sure had but she didn’t realize it was over 50 miles away.......terrible

Alicia flooded everything in her path. Anywhere along the coast sometimes 40 miles or more inland can wreak havoc and the lakes, rivers and streams in outer lying areas miles and miles from the coast really suffer too.......but that goes with living on the Gulf Coast....;)
