Large Hadron Collider Creates Matter From Light
SciTechDaily.com ^ | 06 September 2020

Last year, the ATLAS experiment at the LHC observed two photons, particles of light, ricocheting off one another and producing two new photons. This year, they've taken that research a step further and discovered photons merging and transforming into something even more interesting: W bosons, particles that carry the weak force, which governs nuclear decay.

The theory goes that ‘virtual particles’ appear and disappear due to quantum fluctuations. They pop up, and, immediately recombine and just become part of the quantum fog of the universe.

The idea behind Hawking radiation is that close to Black holes, one particle can go into the black hole, and, one could not, thus having a orphaned particle left. Matter converted from energy, appearing to be ‘created’ out of nothing.

Not a giant fan of Hawking (though I have been following him since the 70s), but, that concept alone should have gotten him at least a nomination for a Nobel.

It’s what Hawking ‘Radiation’ is...............

The Nobel committee tends to view theoretical physics like cosmology as a branch of applied mathematics. So there’s a heavy bias toward experimental work - example Arno Penzais & Robert Wilson for their CMB radiation discovery. Same field (sort of !) but experimental work.

Well now Nully, we used to raise a few beef steers.

I'm given to understand that the testosterone, besides making bulls much harder to handle, also gives the meat a 'gamey' taste and makes it tougher,...True

When a cow has calves the males are turned into steers as you don't need more than one bull to service thirty cows.
The females are more valuable for milk and having more calves. If you have too many females they can be raised for beef, they just don't get as big as fast.

To finish the steer for beef you feed them cob (a mixture of oats, barley, corn, etc.) in addition to their pasture grazing or hay. Cob is like candy to them. There is also "wet" cob which has a bit of molasses added. Fattens the steers quickly for tasty beef.

Maybe I should have said that conversion of stuff into light had already been demonstrated.

Are you talking about early 1940's University of Chicago?

May I please be added?

They courted attempts to field that rumor, but there were attempts to squash it.

OK....mmmm....uh, why do we even need a ship? We could just convert the whole planet and everything on it and send it to the right spot around another star.

Thank you.
I’m saving for a 3D printer, and researching what I can about it.
Hoping to print a kind of shoulder stock carbine accessory for my Springfield XDm with the SilencerCo Osprey with it.

Re: Someone has GOT to change this title.

Thanks, Conan.

When I posted this, I knew at least one Freeper would dislike the word “Creates” in the title.

In spite of the error, it is a really interesting experiment with really interesting results.

Is this proof that particles with no mass have influenced each other to create a new particle with mass?

And for clarity, I was NOT blaming you. I’ve read the article before. It’s so wrong.
