out here the weather report included known record highs and lows for each day. Usually there is a sixty to eighty degree difference.

I guarantee you Modesto has had weeks like this regularly in the summers our whole lives.
I was looking at the moonrise last night here in Phoenix and it was ruddy orange from all the smoke.
Yeah, except not in September.
