A man with a shotgun tried to rob a South Side gas station, using a woman as a shield, but was shot dead by another man who then ran off Thursday night, according to Chicago police.
Tyrone Smith, 55, walked into the Citgo Food Mart in the 6700 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue at about 9:50 p.m. Holding a shotgun, he screamed, Give me the money several times and grabbed a woman in front of him, police said.
A man standing near the door pulled his own gun and shot Smith at least three times and then fled, police said.

A good Samaritan who couldn’t afford a lawyer?
Another victim of “gun violence.”

No CCW permit?

Or maybe just a handsome stranger riding off into the sunset. And we didn't even get a chance to thank him...
South Cottage Grove past the 50s and before the 40s is pretty nasty, at least it was in the early ‘80s. 6700 is about 7 blocks from the U of Chicago campus (head east when you get to 60th/Midwat Plaisance)
For a short time, young Ronald Reagan lived near that area when his father had a job up there. It’s gone downhill since.
There was a popular te-shirt in the early ‘70s that is apropos.
“Do Unto Others ... then Split”
Or maybe just a handsome stranger riding off into the sunset.
” And we didn’t even get a chance to thank him...”
Who was that masked man?
I think its a decision many ccw holders, and perhaps in this case and location, he may not have been one, have to seriously think about. Ie not sticking around in such a case.
On one hand no one can say a certain degree of justice was not swiftly administered. Way faster and better and cheaper than the nanny thug-coddling cities and states ever will.
Death wish.
Not many can.
I make a pretty good buck and I cant afford a lawyer.

Looks like a company bought royalties for showing that. Besides the channel name, there’s also a credit to that company at the beginning.
” about 7 blocks from the U of Chicago campus “
I worked at the University of Chicago in the 1970s-early 80s and rode in an adventurous carpool; live in northern DuPage.
In very cold weather it was considered ‘safe’ to cut through Englewood!
We were nuts.
But I’m OK now.
And have the papers to prove it!
As Rahm would say...”Never let a crisis go to waste.”.
When I was at the U of C in the 70s, I was craving a Whopper and the closest Burger King was on Stoney Island, about 6700. I went in, ordered and waited a few minutes. As I got my order I saw a guy with a blue shirt on and what looked like a blood stain. I left and circled the block, and when I went by again I saw 3 cop cars screaming into the parking lot. I had apparently just missed a holdup. NEVER did I go back there. Was glad to get out of that neighborhood the next Spring.
Second City Cop is a great site.
Does that mountain peak on the left side look kinda like a head to anyone? 8)
or who didn’t have a permit.
I’m sure that as he rode off into the sunset, during COVID, everyone asked:
“Who was that masked man anyway?”
