Every drain plug hole I’ve ever seen is threaded to accept a brass plug. It can be tightened down to where nobody would have enough leverage under water to unscrew it with Wrench.

Why on earth would anyone use that wine stopper contraption? I carry an extra plug and even it too is brass, tied to a float as an emergency spare. I’d never consider a wine stopper.

Smaller alumninum fishing boats, Jon boats mostly have the stopper type plug.

My 1st boat (1969 20ft in/out tri-hull} had the stopper plug as did most boats from that era.

Had a 1980 17 ft bow ridder with outboard, it also had the stopper plug.

1992 Bayliner in/out did have the brass plug, needed to use a wrench to remove and install.

In all my years of boating involving dozens of boats have never seen a stopper plug come out.

The problem has always been failure to install before launching.

We had a 2012 Bayliner bow rider (pleasure boat?). My husband was religious in putting in the brass plug with a wrench on the outside and always kept a spare on the key ring. Guess you can say he was sort of a prepper. Always looking for what could go wrong. Will never forget the time his son took the boat out and didn’t put the plug in. OMG, my husband wanted to kill him. LOL. He (stepson, is still an idiot know it all!)
