In my life I have never intentionally harmed any person. I prefer to live in a dreamy peaceful world where I surround myself in a quiet calm that envelops me in a safety bubble wrap. I desire to sleep with an innocent expectation, letting go of my conscious thoughts and entering into the deep rest of the pure in mind and body. When sleep refreshes us, the body rejuvenates itself.
One of our former family members (by marriage, and divorce) recently had a organ transplant. It is so amazing that even though the spirit of the one who died is gone, their organs can give a new chance of life to someone else. The medical team had to find the way to keep that organ alive until it could be placed into the body of its receiver. This modern wonder of science makes me think of several applications for today's world.
Jesus said as our shepherd that he willingly lays down his life. Just as a good shepherd would place his body in the door of the sheepfold during the night to prevent wolves from entering and devouring the helpless sheep, His body is the solid door that protects us from the ravenous jaws of the wolves of today. Like sheep we sleep in the innocent safety of being inside of the sheep fold. “I am come that they may have life, and life more abundantly”.
Many politicians are like mad surgeons with a scalpel in their hand ready to cut apart a living and vibrant America piece by piece to sell her organs to the highest bidder for power and influence. It seems that they are going for the heart of America in this election. To politicians at every level and citizens everywhere who have been sleeping the sleep of irresponsibility: Nap time is over! Because President Trump has God and America in his heart, when I vote for him, My heart can feel proud On the other hand, most American's are awake and are protecting our heart and homeland. I pray, during this time when rioters and looters and “activist protesters” (silly people who have lost their consciences), that they do not crash into my world of peace. I am sad that perhaps only the fear of losing their own life will make them stop their destruction. It grieves me that the people who have lived quietly in harmony now have to think about what the choices are when our lives are threatened.
I think that deep within each of us is a certain ember that sleeps soundly, preferring to remain dull and cool until violent forces cause a person to react, fanning that ember into a flame of self preservation. I know that my husband knows this furious flame and in spite of his experiences in combat, keeps that ember cool and dull but alive and prepared against that day if it should ever return. I believe that most police and first responders and people in general live in the same manner, doing good for all in need, but standing ready on behalf of peaceable people to do lawful violence on their behalf (paraphrasing Orwell).
When our children were babies, they would awaken from sleep with a innocent smile like they had been talking with god. I have personal survival skills I learned from adversity. So my thoughts for those of us who have survived this attack against America are that we can emerge from the conflict with the satisfaction that we had the determination to hold on to our piece of soil. In this soil where the pilgrims, patriots, pioneers, people of moral courage who have shed their blood into this ground, we stand on the sacrifices of those who died for their love of this country. To honor their sacrifice is to live full throttle with gratitude, to embrace a wounded America, to bring healing and restoration; to keep the dream alive and make it better so the next generation will have our vision of what America really stands for.
We can grow again, we can live and prosper and we define one nation under God!
Very well said and on point. I do wonder though—when looking through historical lens—why have dark side governments prevailed even while the conditions that led to their success were not confronted (until too late) by the people they eventually came to control and dominate? Nazi Germany is the obvious example but there are many such instances.
