They immediately walked back the speculation on any approvals before phase 3 trials completion. We’ll have phase 3 human trials results in hand before any approval is granted.

As for the “first successful coronavirus vaccine”, that’s pretty misleading for a few reasons, not the least of which is that we’ve already developed working vaccine candidates for coronaviruses twice before. There are only 7 coronaviruses known to infect humans. 4 of them cause mild to moderate upper respiratory symptoms and are responsible for 12-20% of “common colds” each year. No vaccine is coming because there are over 200 viruses known to cause colds and nobody is paying $20,000 a year for a vaccine to cover all 200 of them. The other three are SARS-CoV-1 (SARS2003), MERS-CoV (MERS2012), and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Vaccine candidates were successfully created for SARS2003 and MERS2012. Both made it through phase 1 and phase 2 human trials. But those diseases burned out and phase 3 trials cost a fortune, so they never got funded. SARS-CoV-2 is still going and phase 3 trials are fully funded. We should have results from them soon.

The timeline is also not all that surprising. It took decades to get a working polio vaccine candidate. By the time we got to varicella (chickenpox), it took a few years. SARS2003 we had a vaccine candidate in 20 months. Ebola in 2014 took 7 months. Zika in 2016 took 6 months. SARS-CoV-2 in 2020 took 2 months.

That’s just incremental progress based on advances in science and technology. We’re able to map out an entire virus’ genetic code in weeks instead of months or years now. Using that and modern computing technology, we can identify ways to attack the virus before any lab testing has to be set up. Identifying antigens is now trivial. Delivering antigens to the human immune system to trigger an immune response is becoming far more routine as well. We’ve just gotten better at this whole process.

A chip with what function, exactly? How is the chip powered? What processing unit does it have? How much memory for instructions and data storage? What size is this chip? Where does the chip go? How many of them would get injected? How much does each one cost to manufacture? How do they communicate? If it's wifi, which access points can they connect to? If it's through mobile networks, how are they getting a signal with a microscopic antenna, no power for that antenna, and a whole lot of fluid and tissue blocking signal?

This is why this crazy conspiracy stuff always falls apart. As soon as you start asking some basic questions like "how would this work?", there's no answers. We don't know why, we don't know how, there's no technical details, and so on. The CIA didn't know the Berlin wall was coming down until bricks started hitting them in the head. I'm not worried about them having some crazy space alien technology from the future that's 100+ years beyond anything anyone in the world has ever seen before.

They have stuff that's a little faster, a little smaller, a little smarter than what you or I can buy on Amazon. What they don't have is magic from Hogwartz to create things that defy the laws of physics. And yes, I fully understand that because I don't buy into the conspiracy, I MUST be part of it. Me and probably a half billion other people. Because we all know how great humans are at keeping secrets.

I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone here supporting forced or mandatory vaccination for COVID-19. I’m a big fan of vaccines in general (because I don’t like polio or smallpox), and I’m completely against mandatory vaccines. Every individual has a right to make their own decisions about what’s best for their own health and wellbeing.

Not new at all. The Cutter Incident from 1955 was hardly the first or the only case of bad quality control or bad judgement resulting in people getting sick who didn’t need to. In that case, a mom ‘n pop laboratory making the polio vaccine screwed up and people got sick with polio as a result.

I believe that you and I are aligned. My opinion comes from when I was a child and contra indicated for smallpox vaccine. I got it later when I joined the Army. I have had to do a lot of international travel and have a TON of other vaccines.

But that was my choice.

In the mid-1950s, I was a toddler and my mother was staying with Dad’s parents in East Texas while he was at Ft. Benning as a ROTC 2nd LT. I became ill and the local MD diagnosed me with polio and set things up for me to be hospitalized. How many of you have seen the photos of warehouse sized hospital wards with rows of patients in iron lungs? Polio was and remains terrifying in killing or crippling those afflicted. Mom loaded me up in the car and drove back to Oklahoma to her family’s Doc. Turns out I was misdiagnosed and “only” had a bad flu. My generation of children all had a polio vaccination scar on our left arm.

I have no idea if I have any residual immunity from that almost universal vaccination but I guess it is better than nothing.
