The New Orleans Saints decided to have practice Thursday -- but a bunch of players, including Drew Brees, put the name "Jacob Blake" on their helmets to show support for the movement.
It's an interesting move for Brees who publicly changed his stance on the national anthem kneeling protest earlier this year -- admitting he didn't really understand that it was about putting a spotlight on police brutality and not meant to disrespect the flag or the military. The Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers have also canceled their Thursday practices.
Several NFL teams -- including the NY Jets and the Indianapolis Colts -- are canceling practice Thursday so players can focus on social justice issues.
Just one day after multiple NBA teams refused to take the court for their Game 5 playoff games as a "boycott" to show outrage over the Jacob Blake shooting, NFL players are also taking action.
The Washington Football Team is among those canceling team activities Thursday.
Head coach Ron Rivera says the decision came after a conversation with new team president Jason Wright.
"Jason Wright and I worked this afternoon to develop a response that has the right balance between the business of football and being truly thoughtful about the social injustice we witnessed with this latest incident in Wisconsin."
"We went to Mr. Snyder with our plan for tomorrow and we were given his complete support and approval."
Rivera says the plan is to return to football on Friday -- but Thursday will "be about reflection instead."
"In place of our practice at FedExField, the players, coaches and football staff will meet as a football family and we will continue our open dialogue on the issues of racism and social injustice in our country."
Not all NFL teams scrapped practice Thursday -- the Ravens, Giants, Patriots and Buccaneers proceeded as scheduled.
The Ravens explained, "Our team decided to practice this morning. After practice, the team will come together for a meeting to discuss and work on a plan for continued social justice reform efforts."
Drew Bree’s faith turned out to be paper thin. what an embarrassment he is to me as a Christian.
What in H is a Drew Brees? A type of honey bee without balls?
Brees is such a cuck.
brees....you got mush for brains...
IF it weren’t for the “ball”, most of these pompous thugs would be decked out in prison orange with chains picking up trash along the highways and by-ways of America under the watchful eye of armed prison guards.
This thankless bunch of azzholes may just get there yet.
He should’ve retired.
But he’s really thinking more about his post-playing announcing career more than anything.
Would like to see someone step up and put Cannon Hinnant’s name on their helmet or Nick Wall or Laura Anderson. I used to like Brees before I gave up the NFL but have lost any respect I had for him.
Do you want the riots to stop? Do you want the masks to go away? Do you want the schools reopened? Do you want your sports back?
All you need to do is vote Trump out of office, return power to us, and we will make everything normal again.
Drew Brees can go to hell.
Good riddance.
"If you mention extortion again, I'll have your legs broken."
Wow. So brave. Millionaire sports ball players taking one whole day off to protest.
I agree. I can go without sports. Still, its extortion and its obvious. I hope enough of my fellow Americans see through this obvious shakedown.
I get that feeling also. They probably hate the restrictions they must follow and see that as an excuse to ignore it for a few days.
NFL: Not For Long
“I think all 32 teams in the league should cancel their seasons, donate all of their ill-gotten salaries to BLM and feel good about themselves”
I would add that they should also respond personally to all 911 calls.
That doesn’t surprise me at all. Nor does Brees putting the criminal’s name on his helmet. That shows where his heart is. Or more important where it is not. What I can’t understand is why a forum that is supposed to be made up of Conservatives for God and Country worships a man who idolizes someone such as Jacob Blake instead of God Almighty.
