Stephanie Blais, 44, was killed on Thursday after she was attacked by the black bear outside the cabin at McKie Lake, near Buffalo Narrows .
Blais had been on the phone with her father, Hubert Esquirol, at the time of the attack.
Her nine-year-old son watched horrifically from inside the cabin .
A conservation officer said that the bear attack was unprovoked.
They also said the bear was not hungry and had a stomach full of berries.
A Canadian woman was fatally mauled by a bear while outside her family's cabin while on the phone with her father, and to the horror of her young son who was just inside when the attack occurred.
...
Blais' husband, Curtis, called the worried father...
He called me and told me that Stephanie had been attacked by a bear. The bear wouldn't let go so he shot the bear ...
'He then proceeded to give her CPR but she had no pulse.'
Eli, Blais' nine-year-old son, saw the horrific scene from inside the cabin.
The woman's father was surprised by the attack as bears have always been around the property but have never presented a problem before.
'We never leave any food around, we have never given them a reason to stay. There has never been any provoked bears or any that seemed angry. They would always run off,' he said.
...
A conservation officer told the father that the bear was unprovoked in its attack.
'Stephanie would have been in the bears' sight. She had her back turned. She didn't see it,' Esquirol said.
The bear's stomach was found full of berries leading the officer to believe that the bear was not hungry.

Was the bear a female, and was her cub nearby?
Or did she have her period, and the bear smelled blood?
Were the berries fermented? You don’t want to be around a drunken bear!

Let that be a lesson to ya, Pilgrim. Never bring a cell phone to a bear fight.
I’ve seen more death than I care to recall. But it’s hard for me to imagine a death nearly as ugly.
I’m sorry...bears is where I draw the line. We see deer in our back yard quite regularly...but they don’t look very dangerous.
Most fatal attacks by North American black bears during the past century were conducted by lone, male animals that stalked and then killed their human victims as prey.
The common belief that surprising a mother bear with cubs is the most dangerous kind of black bear encounter is inaccurate.
