I recall years ago, someone was criticized for using the term “indian” instead of “native American”.

A local radio commentator said, tongue in cheek, “Someone should inform the American Indian Movement (AIM) that the name of their organization is offensive”.

I still maintain anyone born in the
USA is a Native American.I grew up with
“American Indian” as a term for those descendents of the Indian tribes..I was
born in the USA and my ancestors came over
here from Britain (before the US
declared independence) and Ireland.
I’m a Native American.

The children’s book author is British
but her book series is called The
Indian in the Cupboard.For now we
still have the Cleveland Indians.
