Companies have a financial incentive to do this because F1 OPTs are EXEMPT from payroll taxes. Hence the company does not have to match their SS contributions. That money goes to the bottom line. A loophole that really needs to be closed.
Though I suspect the reason this happened is that they handed off all HR and recruiting to India where they didn’t know jack squat about our discrimination laws.
