Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy revealed that, given the opportunity, over 80 percent of season ticket holders decided to opt out of tickets for this season, a factor that contributed to the Packers beginning the season with at least two home games without fans.
In July, the Packers asked season ticket holders to opt in or opt out of tickets in 2020. The decision did not affect ticket-holding status in future years and gave ticket holders an opportunity to receive a full refund for 2020 or have this years payment credited to the 2021 season.
The majority opted out.

Yes, but any uncertainty is due to COVID, not kneeling as the fist 8 or 9 posters claimed. In the Packers case, a lot of season ticket holders are opting out because even if there is a season, they don't want to be crowded in a stadium with potentially infected people for 3 or 4 hours. Snowboarding/skiing is pretty well social distanced by the nature of the sport.
I think ratings will continue to fall. Season ticket holders are "super fans", and are not going to walk away. The average viewer, even some who previously never missed a game, are not happy about being called a racist and seeing players express their hate for the flag. More of those people will be tuning out. Once people find better things to do on Sunday, it's hard to get them back.
Traffic on many roads in Wisconsin during a Packer Game are the same as on Christmas Day or Thanksgiving. Looks like things are changing.
Pussies
Player salaries are almost $200 million per year, per team.
I’ll bet each team is on the hook for $225 million each year before the first ball is even snapped.
Even billionaires get nervous when season ticket sales drop 80%.
If nothing else, it means that the average value of a NFL team continues to decline.
Sadly, many will gripe about the kneeling, but go to a game or tune into it on TV. It's like they have battered wife syndrome, and just have to go back.
That’s not a wake up call they should be heeding.
It’s a death knell.
Folks want to watch football, not kneeling
Was it because they have 2 fewer games but still insisted on having them pay the same?
Opted out 4-5 years ago. Cheesehead since the very 1st Superbowl.
Sports sucks. Children’s games convoluted into multi-billion dollar (non)grown up games.
No Thanks.
“I am one that opted out.”
You stated good reasons for not purchasing season tickets. Is the surge in the number of players, coaches and others kneeling for the National Anthem part of your decision to opt out this year? Just curious.
My relative that usually goes to watch Steelers training camp said he is finished following the NFL because of the flag stance.
What’s the cost of season tickets?
Is the surge in the number of players, coaches and others kneeling for the National Anthem part of your decision to opt out this year?
Not at this point. So far this hasn’t been a big problem in Green Bay. If this were a problem, I could sell my tickets to others who would be OK with it as long as I can make a profit on them. If the political BS were such a problem as I couldn’t sell my tickets for what I paid for them, I’d have to dump them and hopefully get my seat licensing fees back. I think I paid $900 each for four seats.
