That book was assigned reading for the Intro to Anthropology class I took in the 60s. Last ‘wild’ Indian (his mother and sister were never found) in California. Put on exhibit at a UC museum.

I read this book when I was a kid, I thought it was extremely sad and I felt so badly for Ishi. It’s always stuck in my head.
