There’s NO WAY that 5G will be available anywhere near me for at least 10 years.

It’s WAY over-hyped.

Plus it’s pretty useless trying to get deep into buildings or the woods.

Even in my urban People’s Republic Compound that is close to the center of town, but in a slight depression, 4G barely works.

5G includes hundreds of Mhz of bands below 1,000 Mhz, bands in the 2,000 Mhz area, and 3,000+ Mhz. Carriers are retasking their below 2,500 Mhz holdings for 5G use and there is an apparent ability to have 4G and 5G “play nice” with each other.

The base stations need to be upgraded, but T-Mobile already has this in many areas—you just can’t use it until your phone can handle it. T-Mobile will be using the widest frequencies from each of the above swaths once the latest Sprint bands in the 2,000+ Mhz frequencies has been switched over. The latest 5G chips can, with the proper antennas, concurrently use all 5G bands in aggregation, but phones with that chipset won’t be available until late this year or early next year.

Carriers can much more efficiently reuse spectrum with 5G technology, making many more phone much faster with much less cost and bandwidth. 5G is a “win-win.”
