Half the planet got that email. believe it, or dont believe it. Its all the same to me.

Obviously same to you...you won’t/can’t substantiate your comment and say believe it or not...
Why would I believe it when you can’t or won’t bother to substantiate it?
Perhaps the person posting a legit question/concern might be better served with a researched post rather than accepting that “half the planet got it...”
Every wonder wonder why people say don’t believe what you read on the internet??? If people take time to post facts with sources versus mere opinion stated as fact, everyone benefits.
It is your opinion...based on your opinion...Fine...Why not just label it an opinion?
I did not get this email, but will notify you if I do.
Turn off updates. Once you have a stable linux system on your machine and everything works correctly there is really no reason to do any updating to the distro it’s self. It’s not MS, it doesn’t need constant updates.Maybe way down the road it might be required to update just the kernel it’s self but not the OS.
Sometimes your apps might need a rare update, but you can go to your update manager and look for any new app updates. Linux checks for any extra needed dependencies as you do a program download and goes to fetch these at the same time no matter what version you have.
I have been running this Mint cinnamon 18.3 with zero issues for over three years now with no updates at all to the OS it’s self. First thing folks should do when considering linux is shed themselves of that “I have to update” habit, With linux if everything works fine you do not, it’s not required at all like MS forces you to do.
Old will work new, and new will work old. No updates truly necessary. :)
Anyone helping you with that yet? I can help with that and get you going no problem. I have helped quite a few on here with step by step that works every time. It is actually easier than it sounds. The only real technical thing is that you do have to go in and set the boot order in your CMOS so that it looks for a boot from a stick or disk first. And it is actually pretty simple when properly explained. :)
Sorry, but I’m calling your bluff. Microsoft doesn’t just reach out to people, and the EULA is assumed when you install/use the OS. There’s no EULA updates sent out that require verification/validation. If you have a Microsoft account associated with your Win10 install, there are very specific privacy protections in place that you won’t just randomly receive an email about EULA.
If you did receive an email, I suggest you report it to Microsoft as phishing.
Microsoft will not contact you unsolicited!
What took you so long? lol I feel for you if you are stuck using it for work etc. As the resident Linux expert You probably knew this was coming pretty soon Ace. I kind of figured it would come to this sooner or later and I haven’t touched it at all for over three years as you know. The peace of mind has been absolutely priceless.
That’s nice. It’s the services agreement. Is there something you wanted me to read specifically, or are you just being snarky?
It was shared earlier in this thread and it has been verified. Just sharing it, I can’t read it for you...
It’s the TOS for all of their major services, and the fact they shuttered Mixer about a month ago tells me they need to update it. The OP never mentioned from what service the email originated. M365? MS Store? Azure? Just saying, “Microsoft is evil. They’re the evil empire. Linux is better. Bill Gates eats babies” is just the usual FUD I’ve come to expect from FReepers.
Let me guess? You work for Microsoft then? Own MS stock?
I love how that’s the first place everyone goes when I defend Microsoft. They’re a business. They have business policies. Emailing people out of the blue is not something they do, and it’s impractical if not completely improbably considering there are billions of people using Windows.
OP was either consuming a specific service to which they were signed up, they got a phishing email, or they’re just posting FUD. Microsoft doesn’t randomly email people with TOS updates.
I haven’t gotten it on any of my boxes.
I got one. It wasnt a scam, it was genuine.
It may not be random, but I can tell you they did not specify in the email what specific Microsoft products it referred to. The email update did not have a threatening tone, at least that I read. It seems like just the usual CYA stuff you get from companies, maybe Im wrong.
Break out the defroculator and turn MS into flubber.
“I wonder who gets to define the above? What, exactly, will they consider hate speech?” Ex-Stasi agent Anetta Kahane and likeminded people.
That is the current agreement...here is the upcoming agreement (10/1/20):

THANK YOU! Will forward...
Right out of the horses mouth... Shared again by another user who is on the ball and knows how crooked MS truly is.
