A local man says he took the drug hydroxychloroquine while he had COVID-19 and within a few days felt better.
He did this despite warnings from the majority of medical organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health warning against it.
Steve Allen of Van Buren was diagnosed with COVID-19 at the end of July.
I just felt like it was getting a sinus infection," Allen said.
Allen says after his doctor refused to prescribe him anything he got a prescription for hydroxychloroquine, zinc and vitamin D-3 from a physician's assistant that he knew.
After the first couple of doses I could really tell it was breaking up the chest congestion, and I was coughing a lot and ended up going to the ER because I was having a hard time breathing," Allen said.
Allen claims the ER doctor told him to continue taking hydroxychloroquine, along with steroids and within a matter of days, he felt much better.
Im not saying it would do that for everyone, but I think its pretty crazy that we cant have a conversation with our doctor about a medication that may work," Allen said.
Dr. Rawle Seupaul, the Chief Clinical Officer with UAMS says the reason the FDA revoked the emergency authorization of hydroxychloroquine treatment for COVID-19 is that it doesnt work.
Theres no scientific evidence that shows any benefit to using hydroxychloroquine, Dr. Seupaul said. "There are a number of reasons why this individual could have gotten better. He may have had mild disease, he may be healthy, he be lucky.
Local pharmacists say they havent seen very many prescriptions for hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19 but theyre happy to any questions customers might have about the drug.
The harm for any medication is potential side effects, hydroxychloroquine, although it has been available for a long time, does have some serious side effects, they can range anyway from GI symptoms to nightmares, up to cardiac arrhythmia," said Andrew Mize, a pharmacist at Debbies Family Pharmacy in Rogers.
“””From the below April 2, 2020 report that covered 6,200 Covid-19 treating doctors:”””
Be careful about using facts and figures from an April 2, 2020 report.
Since then, HCQ is under attack especially after the FDA ruling.
Medical malpractice is the true pandemic
it has been under attack all along including after April but this does not change its treatment results
any licensed physician can still prescribe it, however, notwithstanding that “Big Pharma” and extremist leftwing politicians attack it
it works per the studies over 90%, which is as good or better than most all medicines for most all conditions
will we get something even better? probably yes.
(Chances are it will cost an arm and a leg, too, but anyway, yes)
will we learn more about the virus and what treatments are best (such as, early or late in the progression is still being discussed)
right now, it is inaccurate for anyone out there to say we can’t treat this virus (and there’s at least one other medical regime that appears to work pretty well in first trials, too)
Must be nice to know a PA who will do this for you. Wish I knew someone that well that could do it.
This whole debate about HCQ is criminal more than it is stupid, manipulative and political.
INSANITY!!!
...man takes megadoses of Vitamin C to defeat the common cold...

Exactly- the left are screaming about racism ‘Being a national health crisis”- but the real health crisis is doctors and governors refusing to give HCQ to save lives- 10’s of 1000’s are dying from not being able to get it-
Meanwhile just 2 unarmed black folks were shot and killed unjustifiably by police, all of last year- and in those cases the cops were convicted- There’s no comparison at all- the real honest health crisis is doctors and govs not allowing HCQ- There simply is no ‘systemic deadly racism’ in the police force- while doctors and governors and democrats who hate Donald Trump are directly responsible for many 10’s of 2000’s of needless deaths
My sister is an ER Physician and refuses to prescribe Hydrochloroquine. Swears it doesn’t work, so if she prescribes anything, she says she prescribes steroids. I always thought she was pretty much apolitical, but she hates the ground Trump walks on, so I wonder how much of this is a political decision. She of course swears it isn’t and that there are no studies showing Hydrochloroquine is even remotely effective. I’m just glad my other sister is a nurse, and is a very conservative Republican who I’m sure would hook me up if I needed it.
link please? tia
Went to the doc this week for my 14 yr olds yearly checkup. Asked very conservative physician about Hydroxychloriquine. I live in WI and my hospital system is Mayo. He said Mayo has restricted all doctors from prescribing it except rheumatologists. He said in addition that if he prescribes is he will be fined by the state medical board. It is a crime the way this is being restricted.
To sum it up, the doctor’s and Pharmacist’s cut on HCQ, Zpac & Zinc is pennies; however I’m sure that they will trip over themselves to recommend the $2,000 per dose alternative.
Hey, dumbass. He took it and he got better. IT DIDN'T AFFECT HIM ADVERSELY!! How much more do you want? Oh, I see. You think the anecdote helps Trump. Go back to where you came from you putz.
Even rat poison is actually a common medicine, Warfarin. My dad was on it until he passed away.
