I read the article and when I hit this paragraph, I lol'ed. As the officer (who eventually retired to become a PI) searched for the perp for decades and it was a tipster that called the PI who finally pointed him out.

Yeah, I caught that too. Sort of like the TSA taking credit for subduing the shoe bomber. Or was it the crotch bomber? Anyway, it was actually passengers on the plane who subdued the POS and the only thing the TSA did was to add another meaningless step to the ordeal of taking a commercial flight.
