Most patrol officers, who bear the brunt of all the current abuse, etc., and, who never have a choice about where and when they confront the ‘beast’, (’special’ unit officers, SWAT, etc., get to choose on what terms they confront the ‘beast’), will NEVER get to that level of salary or benefits. The politically connected will, with a commensurate drain on the pension fund that was designed to be the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for the beat cop who got the shit beat out of him for 20+ years.
